The Best Of The Great Outdoors

HORSETOOTH RESERVOIR

Here at The Great Outdoors RV, we like spending our weekends away from the campers to enjoy our weekends in the campers. Colorado’s own Horsetooth Reservoir is one of our favorite spots! Ranking third on Foursquare’s list of best lakes in the United States, it is a spectacular place to unwind, relax and spend time doing your favorite activities with your favorite people. 1,900 acres of water is settled in the center of 2,000 acres of public land, allowing plenty of space for the whole family to enjoy the popular destination.
Here are just a few reasons why this is one of our go-to camping spots in our neck of the woods.

Perfect Camping Locations

In Horsetooth’s case, there really are no bad camping spots. All 155 campsites are within walking distance from the lake.
With some, you can practically dip your toes into the water from your steps.
Campsites range from 20 to 90 feet in back in and pull through spots.

Trails For Every Level

Horsetooth has some incredible trails that our guys love to spend time exploring. From wildlife to always changing Colorado sunrises and sunsets, you never know what you’re going to find! Whether you’re looking for a simple hike to cool off under a waterfall, a horseback ride through an open space or a more difficult bike trail, Horsetooth’s 27 designated trails offer it all.

Watercraft Rentals

Though we personally chose the paddleboards (which were a hit with the kids) the reservoir offers a spectrum of rentals including fishing, speed and pontoon boats, jet skis, kayaks, canoes and hydro bikes at low hourly rates through the Inlet Bay Marina.

Swim Beach

Pull up a chair and let the kids play! Located near the South Bay Campground, Horsetooth’s swimming beach offers a roped-off swimming area, covered picnic area, volleyball nets, changing/shower rooms and plenty of parking space.

Fishing

There’s nothing better than ending the day cooling off with your family under the awning of your RV with the smell of a fresh fish fry in the air. According to The Denver Post, Horsetooth is often voted one of the best fishing waters in the Western U.S! You’ll find quality fishing for walleye, small and largemouth bass, and all species of trout. The reservoir is open year round to fishing.

Volunteer Work

Looking to get in some volunteer work? Larimer County Natural Resources offers plenty of opportunities!
Trail maintenance, social trail mitigation, campground hosting, naturalist and ranger’s assistant internships, and opportunities for photographers are just a few on their list.
